BOONE, N.C. -- Fresh off of a victory at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational on Sept. 13, Appalachian State women's cross country will return to action on Saturday morning at the USC Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. The women's 5K race will begin at 9 a.m.
TWO-TIME SUN BELT RUNNER OF THE WEEK
After taking first place at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational,
Phylissa Greeley was tabbed as Sun Belt Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this season. She won the award for the first time this season after placing fourth at the season opening Covered Bridge Open. She then garnered in the award again after taking first place in a field of 66 runners at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational with a time of 18:05.52.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
The women's cross country program is on a successful run. Since the beginning of the 2014 season, the Mountaineers have finished first or second in team scoring in 24 of 32 races, including both this season. The Black and Gold took first place at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational on Sept. 13, claiming the top-five spots and eight of the top-10 finishers. Leading App State across the finish line for the second consecutive race was
Phylissa Greeley, who finished first overall in 18:05.52.
Samantha Kolor was second with a time of 18:18.73 and
Katelyn Butler was third in 18:23.30.
Emily Fedders finished fourth with a time of 18:27.10 and
Izzy Evely rounded out the top-five with a time of 18:31.24. Also posting top-10 finishes were
Elisa Sargent (seventh in 18:32.69),
Sarah Hajnos (eighth in 18:41.54) and
Megan Scannell (10th in 18:51.13).
NEXT UP
Appalachian State will be idle next weekend and will compete again on Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. at the HPU VertKlasse Open. It will mark the final race for the Mountaineers before competing in the Sun Belt Championships on Oct. 27 in Mobile, Ala.
