MISSION STATEMENT
The primary goal of the App State University strength and conditioning program is to serve as support staff to aid coaches in developing highly competitive athletes. This is accomplished through the administration of a comprehensive training program based on the objectives below:
Objective #1: Design sport specific training to achieve peak physical performance and reduce the occurrence of athletic injures
- Coaches use strength, flexibility, plyometric and corrective exercises to be successful to achieve this goal
- Aerobic and anaerobic conditioning exercises are also utilized for sport specific performance enhancement
- Coaches use the latest proven technology to assist with obtaining defined goals
Objective #2: Coaching staff develops programs based on physical evaluations
- Evaluations are based on body composition, flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance and movement screenings
- Evaluations are both comprehensive and individualized to ensure the highest level of athletic performance
Objective #3: Provide proper instruction
- Both in and out of season, instruction is provided on a specific individualized basis
- Strength staff collaborates with the sports performance team (athletic training, nutrition, sports science and sports psychology) to ensure proper instruction
Objective #4: Challenge athletes in aspects of leadership, work ethic, winning attitude, attendance and above average ability to follow instructions
- The Mountaineer Power Club Award is given annually to a student-athlete from each team who demonstrates the highest level of the above qualities
- The Mountaineer Power Club Contender Award is given monthly to a student-athlete from each team who demonstrates the highest level of the above qualities

THE STAFF (Olympic Sports)
The Appalachian State strength and conditioning program features six staff members.
Robbie Ormsby serves as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports and is classified as a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach, the highest honor given to a coach in the strength and conditioning field.

CAMPS

WEIGHT ROOMS
Appalachian State has three different weight rooms located in the Ricks Athletic Center, the Holmes Convocation Center and Varsity Gym. Each weight room offers a variety of free weights and racks.
