MISSION STATEMENT

The Performance Nutrition Department is committed to fueling student-athlete’s health and well-being by utilizing evidence-based information to promote optimal athletic performance, minimize injury and illness risk, and build championship seasons with quality athletic experiences.

PURPOSE

To create sustainable and nutritious habits through meaningful interactions and education that allows student-athletes to be competitive in their sport, in the classroom, and to embody a healthy lifestyle for years to come.

Sport Specific

  • Weight management: gain, maintain, loss
  • Body composition measurement and preservation of lean mass
  • Preventing dehydration with fluid and electrolyte needs
  • Fueling for optimal performance and energy balance regulation
  • Pre/during event fueling to meet energy demands
  • Post recovery fueling for recovery needs
  • Injury prevention
  • Team education
  • Competition and on-the-road nutrition planning


    Life & Wellness

  • Navigating specific dietary patterns (vegetarian, gluten/lactose-free) for performance
  • Nutrition timing and meal planning
  • Preventing nutrient deficiencies with balanced eating behaviors
  • Supplement evaluation and education
  • Individual counseling
  • Grocery store and dining hall tours
  • Food demonstrations and cooking skills


    Medical Nutrition Therapy

  • Disordered eating and eating disorders, RED-S (relative energy deficiency in sport), Female athlete triad
  • Altered nutrition related lab values: low vitamin and mineral levels
  • Perioperative injury needs: inflammation management, attenuation of muscle loss, weight management
