BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State's women's cross country team placed five runners in the top nine and finished second behind ACC program Florida State at the nine-team Covered Bridge Open on the Kennedy Trails in Boone.
App State totaled 32 points, five more than the Seminoles, who claimed the top three individual spots. The Mountaineers' top individual finisher was senior
Phylissa Greeley, who took fourth in 17:37.25. She was followed by senior
Katelyn Butler in fifth (17:55.39) and senior
Emily Fedders in sixth (17:56.50).
App State sophomore
Samantha Kolor was eighth in 17:58.24, and freshman
Izzy Evely claimed ninth in 17:58.39. Rounding out the top seven for the Mountaineers was sophomore
Sarah Hajnos in 14th (18:08.04) and senior
Elisa Sargent in 15th (18:10.10).
Some of App State's other top finishers were junior
Megan Scannell (20th, 18:31.27), junior
Sarah Venable (24th, 18:39.32), senior
Erin Jameson (30th, 18:55.07), sophomore
Annika Merkh (36th, 19:12.26) and
Natalie Richardson (37th, 19:13.41).
Appalachian's women return to action Friday, Sept. 14, at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational in Newton.
