CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Championship stakes are involved Sunday in the Scenic City.
Traveling to Chattanooga, App State Wrestling (9-5, 6-0 SoCon) will face the Mocs (8-5, 5-1 SoCon) in the next-to-last league dual for each squad. The showdown begins at 2 p.m. in Maclellan Gym and will be streamed on ESPN+.
The only blemish to the conference record for Chattanooga, the league's preseason favorite, was a 19-18 loss to The Citadel in a matchup decided by tiebreaking criteria. An 18-all tie in that dual was broken by the fact that the only pin of the night belonged to The Citadel, which reached 4-0 in the league before falling 23-13 at App State last weekend and is 4-1 heading into a Sunday doubleheader against Bellarmine and Davidson.
The outcome Sunday in Chattanooga could play a big role in determining if there is one outright champion or co-champions in the regular season race.
App State traveled to Davidson on Friday and took nine of 10 matches in a 38-3 victory before making a 5.5-hour trip to Chattanooga on Saturday. The Mocs have been dominant since the loss to The Citadel, winning all 30 matches while beating VMI, Campbell and Presbyterian by a combined score of 145-0.
The NCAA released its second set of Coaches' Rankings on Thursday, and three Mountaineers were listed: No. 31
Jarvis Little at 133 pounds, No. 29
Kaden Keiser at 149 pounds and No. 22
Tomas Brooker at 184 pounds.
The first edition of the RPI was also released Thursday, and six Mountaineers were included in a ranking that takes into account a wrestler's winning percentage, strength of schedule and opponent's strength of schedule. The RPI includes Little (No. 23 at 133), Keiser (No. 31 at 149),
Anthony Conetta (No. 30 at 165), Brooker (No. 23 at 184),
Logan Eller (No. 32 at 197) and
Stephan Monchery (No. 22 at heavyweight).
Chattanooga also has six wrestlers with a top-33 RPI ranking, and two Mocs are in the NCAA Coaches' Rankings: No. 32 Cooper Flynn at 125 pounds and No. 31 Landon Jones at 184 pounds.
Chattanooga has a 36-27-1 lead in the all-time series with App State. The Mountaineers have won the last 10 meetings, but seven of those duals were decided by seven team points or less.
App State's 2025-26 season is presented by Hungry Howie's and Penn Station.
