Mountaineers Host Wake Forest in Black Out Game

BOONE, N.C. – The App State field hockey team (2-2) takes on Wake Forest (0-3) on Friday at 6 p.m. The Mountaineers look to bounce back after Sunday's loss to VCU. Friday's matchup will be a "Black Out", and fans are encourage to wear black attire.

Last Time Out
The Mountaineers fell to the VCU Rams in Sunday's overtime matchup to a score of 3-2. Bridget Donovan and Sophia Baxter both found the back of the cage against the Rams. Although having a lead late in the game, a late VCU goal would send the match into overtime, where the Mountaineers would be defeated.  
 
Scouting the Mountaineers
The Mountaineers come into this matchup winning 11 of their last 14 games, dating back to last season. App State has led the shot count against their opponents by more than double digits in all games excluding last Sunday's matchup against VCU.
 
The Mountaineers have been pressing the attack, averaging 9.5 corners a game, which is second in the MAC, trailing only behind Ball State.  
 
App State was picked to finish second in the 2024 MAC Conference standings by the league's coaches. The team tied for first in the MAC last season after once again, tying a program-record for wins in a season with 14 and rattling off a nine-game winning streak to end the regular season. 
 
The 2024 Mountaineer squad will feature six players who garnered All-MAC selections in 2023. Midfielder Lisa Boekaar earned All-MAC first-team honors, while the trio of Charlotte Bosma, Grace Ball and Sophia Baxter earned All-MAC second team honors. Florine Koopman and Sophia Baxter were also both named to the All-MAC Freshman team. The 2024 team will also feature six newcomers to the high country. Dinsmore was also awarded Co-Coach of the Year in her first season with the team. 
  
Scouting the Demon Deacons
Wake Forest enters this matchup against the Mountaineers after coming off an 8-9 (1-5 ACC) season in 2023. The Rams will be led by head coach Jennifer Averill, who is in her 33^rd year with the program.
 
Series History
This is the 55^th official matchup against Wake Forest, with a record of 17-36-1. The Mountaineers faced off against Wake Forest last year, where they would fall 3-0 against the Demon Deacons. App State last defeated Wake Forest in 1991to a score of 1-0.
