Volleyball Heads to Louisiana for Pair of Crossover Division Matchups

BOONE, N.C. -- After sweeping last weekend, Appalachian State volleyball will hit the road to begin a five-match road trip on Friday and Sunday. The Mountaineers take on Louisiana in Lafayette on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPN+, followed by a 1 p.m. EST meeting with ULM on Sunday.

THE SERIES
  • The all-time series between App State and Louisiana is tied 4-4. Last season, the Mountaineers overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Ragin' Cajuns 3-2 in Boone
  • App State leads the all-time series with ULM 5-1. The Black and Gold have won four straight over the Warhawks, with all four victories coming by a 3-0 sweep
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • App State enters play with a 6-9 mark and 2-0 mark in Sun Belt play, after posting 3-1 wins over Georgia State and Georgia Southern this past weekend
  • For their efforts over the weekend, Sam Bickley and Emma Reilly were named Sun Belt Players of the Week. Bickley was tabbed as Sun Belt Freshman of the Week after posting 92 assists (11.50 a/s), 18 digs (2.25 d/s) and 8 kills (1.00 k/s). Reilly earned her second Defensive Player of the Year honor after tallying a total of 45 digs (5.63 d/s)
  • Reilly leads the Sun Belt in total digs (291) and is the lone player in the league averaging 5.00 digs or more at 5.20. In addition, she leads the league with 32 service aces
  • Emma Longley is one of two players in the Sun Belt to average 4.00 kills per set or more, sitting at 4.00 k/s, which ranks second. She also had a league leading 224 total kills this season
  • Bickely sits second in the league in assist average (10.39) and is tops in the conference in total assists (561)
  • Kara Spicer has hit .300 or better in 11 matches this season and ranks third in the Sun Belt, hitting .348
SCOUTING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
  • Louisiana split a pair of matches last weekend and stands at 5-10 overall and 1-1 in Sun Belt play. The Ragin' Cajuns fell at Texas State on Friday 3-1 and topped UT Arlington 3-1 on Sunday
  • The Ragin' Cajuns lead the league in team digs per set (18.04) and total digs (938). Three players have recorded 100 or more digs this season in Hannah Ramirez (241), Avery Breaux (145) and Hali Wisnoskie (140)
  • On offense, Wisnoskie leads the team in total kills (129) and kills per set (2.48). Dree'Ana Abram (110) and Celeste Darling (104) also have over 100 kills on the season, with Jade Tia Smith leading the team with a .276 hitting percentage
SCOUTING THE WARHAWKS
  • ULM fell to Louisiana Tech in a non-conference meeting on Tuesday to fall to 9-8 on the year. The Warhawks also dropped their opening two Sun Belt matches and stand at 0-2 in league play
  • Alix Christie ranks second in the conference in hitting percentage at .368, with Mikaela Worley ranking fifth in the league in kills per set at 3.64
  • On defense, Albany Schaffer is one of three Warhawks to have over 100 digs on the season (197). Kate Blasingame (160) and Worley (113) also have registered 100 digs on the year

App State will continue its road trip with a pair of matches in Arkansas next weekend. The Mountaineers battle Arkansas State on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. EST and Little Rock on Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. EST.
