Four Mountaineers Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. - App State seniors Addison Heidemann, Ali Morris, Maya Winterhoff, and sophomore Lou Johnson were named to the 2025 Academic All-District Women's Volleyball Team, which is selected by College Sports Communicators, on Tuesday. 
 
Heidemann, Morris, and Winterhoff each surpassed a career milestone this fall and were honored for their achievements alongside sophomore MeMe Davis, who also recorded a career mark this year, in the Mountaineers' season finale against Troy. Heidemann had eclipsed 1,000 career assists on Aug. 30 and Winterhoff surpassed 1,000 career kills on Oct. 10. Morris was the sole Mountaineer this fall to eclipse two career milestones, in digs (Oct. 17) and kills (Nov. 8). Additionally, Heidemann tallied nine double-doubles and Morris both tallied eight this season. 
 
Winterhoff and Morris each collected their third CSC Academic All-District honors, having previously collected honors in 2023 and 2024. Winterhoff, who is majoring in professional studies, became the Mountaineers' first Major League Volleyball draftee on Nov. 11 and was the No. 20 overall pick by the Columbus Fury. She earned AVCA East Coast First-Team All-Region, First-Team All-SBC, and Preseason All-SBC honors and collected a trio of MVP All-Tournament honors this year. For a third consecutive season, the Charlottesville, Va. native led the Sun Belt in hitting percentage with a mark of .398. She also led the Mountaineers in kills, averaging 2.76 per set, as well as blocks, averaging 1.15 per set. Over the course of the season, she slammed down double-figure kills in 19 matches and recorded a hitting percentage of .400 or higher in 14 matches. Winterhoff capped her collegiate career in the Black and Gold with 1,123 kills, a hitting percentage of .383, 740 blocks (88 solo, 382 assists), and 113 aces. 
 
Morris, a general studies major, led the Mountaineers in aces, serving up 27 this fall. She also ranked second on the team in kills (304, 2.69 k/s) and digs (242, 2.14 d/s) for the Black and Gold. The Knoxville, Tenn. native made double-figure kills in 19 matches and double-figure digs in 11 matches over the course of the season. Morris slammed down a season high 18 kills against Georgia State on Oct. 31 and tallied a season high 18 digs against Georgia Southern on Oct. 16. Morris wrapped her career with 1,065 digs (242 at App State), 1,032 kills (304 at App State), 37 double-doubles (eight at App State), 130 blocks (42 at App State), and 107 aces (27 at App State).
 
Heidemann collected her second consecutive academic all-district accolade for her efforts on the court and in the classroom. This fall, she led the Mountaineers and ranked fourth in the league in assists, averaging 8.15 assists per set and totaling 921. Heidemann, who was a Preseason All-SBC selection, recorded a career high 64 assists in the Mountaineers' match against Georgia State on Oct. 31 and made a career high 20 digs on Georgia Southern on Oct. 16. Over the course of her career, she tallied 1,862 assists (1,827 at App State), 492 digs (466 at App State), 45 blocks (five solo, 40 assists), and 20 double-doubles. Heidemann graduated on Dec. 12 with a degree in exercise science. 
 
While studying finance and banking, Johnson ranked sixth in the Sun Belt with a hitting percentage of .324. She averaged 1.53 kills per set and recorded double-figure kills in four matches this fall. On Sept. 27, she slammed down a career high 13 kills on a mark of .423. She also recorded a hitting percentage of .800 in App State's season-opening sweep of Mercer (Aug. 29) and at Coastal Carolina (Oct. 24). 
 
To be nominated for CSC Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA at their current institution and have played in at least 90 percent of the team's contests or must start in at least 66 percent of the team's contests. Select Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Jan. 13.
