Winterhoff Collects AVCA East Coast First-Team All-Region Accolades

BOONE, N.C. - App State senior Maya Winterhoff earned East Coast First-Team All-Region honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Tuesday. The distinction is the second AVCA accolade she has earned during her career after earning an East Coast honorable mention in 2024.

Winterhoff is the seventh Mountaineer in program history to earn AVCA All-Region honors and first since Brittany Zahn in 2007 to earn a first team distinction. Winterhoff's selection last season was the first AVCA All-Region honor for the program since the 2015 campaign. The Charlottesville, Va. native is also the first Mountaineer to earn all-region honors in back-to-back seasons in 20 years, and the first to do so since Stefanie Panzer (2004 and 2005).

This fall, Winterhoff led the Sun Belt with a hitting percentage of .398. The 2025 campaign marked Winterhoff's third consecutive season leading the league in hitting percentage. This fall, she led the Mountaineers with 312 kills, averaging 2.76 kills per set and slammed down double-figure kills in 19 matches. Additionally, Winterhoff was the second of four Mountaineers to surpass a career milestone this year, eclipsing 1,000 career kills on Oct. 10 in the Mountaineers' clash against Old Dominion.

In her four years at App State, Winterhoff started all 112 matches she appeared in for the Black and Gold. She amassed 10 regular season all-tournament nods, four tournament MVP selections, four All-Sun Belt honors, and three Preseason All-SBC nods. Additionally, she was the program's first Sun Belt Volleyball Freshman of the Year for her efforts during the 2022 season.

She capped her collegiate career with 1,123 kills on a mark of .383 and tallied 470 blocks (88 solo, 382 assists). Winterhoff also served up 113 aces and 258 career digs.

Winterhoff was the No. 20 overall draft pick in the 2025 Major League Volleyball Draft on Nov. 11 and will continue her career professionally with the Columbus Fury. As a third round pick, she is App State's first MLV draftee and was the sole draftee to represent the Sun Belt in the 2025 draft.

Fourteen First-Team All-Region honorees as well as a group of honorable mentions were selected to represent the AVCA's 10 regions, totaling 213 honorees representing 109 schools this year. Additionally, there are Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year selections for each of the 10 regions.
