NEW ORLEANS - App State senior
Maya Winterhoff collected First Team All-Sun Belt honors for her performance this season, the league announced on Wednesday. The honor is Winterhoff's second career first team selection and fourth overall selection.
For a third consecutive season, Winterhoff led the Sun Belt in hitting percentage, recording a mark of .398 this fall. The Charlottesville, Va. native, who started all 27 matches this season, led the Mountaineers with 312 kills averaging 2.76 kills per set. She was one of four Mountaineers to reach a career milestone this year, eclipsing 1,000 career kills on Oct. 10 in App State's 3-2 victory over Old Dominion. She recorded double-figure kills in 19 matches and recorded 14 matches with a hitting percentage of .400 or above, with a season high clip of .667 against VCU (Sept. 5) and Marshall (Nov. 6). On Oct. 17, she matched her career high 20 kills against Georgia Southern. She also matched her career high five aces against the College of Charleston on Aug. 30.
Winterhoff led the Black and Gold and ranked sixth in the SBC in blocks with 130 (23 solo, 107 assists). She registered a career high 10 blocks (two solo, eight assists) in the Mountaineers' five-set victory at Kennesaw State on Sept. 13. Additionally, the Charlottesville, Va. native served up 25 aces during the 2025 campaign.
During nonconference play, Winterhoff earned a trio of MVP and all-tournament team honors for her performances at the C of C Classic, Cavalier Classic, and Mountaineer Classic. She also led the Mountaineers to the program's first victory over Virginia on Sept. 6 with 16 kills on a mark of .452 and helped the Black and Gold to a 3-1 victory over Duke on Sept. 19 with 12 kills on a clip of .632. She went up for four blocks in both victories. At the end of her senior season, Winterhoff boasts 1,123 career kills, .383 career hitting percentage, 470 career blocks (88 solo, 382 assists), 258 career digs, and 113 career aces.
Over the course of her decorated career at App State, Winterhoff collected 10 all-tournament honors, four tournament MVP nods, four All-SBC accolades, three Preseason All-SBC selections, a 2024 AVCA Regional Honorable Mention, and the program's first SBC Freshman of the Year honor in 2022.
