KERNERSVILLE, N.C. -- Appalachian State women's cross country continued its strong 2018 season, capturing the VertCross Invitational on Friday evening.
The Mountaineers have now won three straight team titles. In addition, the Black and Gold have finished first or second in nine of its last 10 meets dating back to the start of last season.
App State tallied 28 points to win the meet. Host High Point finished second with 53 points and Campbell was third with 92 points.
Phylissa Greeley posted her fourth top-five finish of the season with a second place finish in a field of 168 runners, navigating the 5k course in 18:18.24.
The Mountaineers also took fourth, fifth and sixth place in the meet.
Samantha Kolor was fourth in 18:26.9,
Emily Fedders was fifth in 18:27.6 and
Elisa Sargent placed sixth in 18:31.2.
Katelyn Butler was 11th in 18:42.66,
Izzy Evely was right behind in 12th in 18:47.87 and
Sarah Hajnos rounded out the top-20 finishers for the Black and Gold with a 16th place finish in 18:54.94.
The Mountaineers will be off next weekend and will compete at the Sun Belt Championships on Oct. 27 in Mobile, Ala. The Black and Gold captured the title in the 2016 season and placed second last season.
