TELEVISION EXPOSURE
  • Appalachian State's campus falls within the coverage areas of four top-100 television markets that serve over 3 million homes combined.
  • Appalachian State teams have played 25 nationally televised games since 2005, including 18 appearances by Mountaineer football on the ESPN family of networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN Classic).
  • In all, Appalachian State games have been broadcast live on national, regional or local television 101 times since 2005. Many of the regional and local broadcasts have also been available nationally via satellite, pay-per-view and digital platforms.
  • Appalachian's 2009 NCAA Division I Football Championship semifinal contest at Montana was the highest-rated NCAA Division I FCS postseason game of all-time with 2,547,000 viewers tuning in on ESPN. The 1.9 nationwide rating (4 share) was the largest ever for an FCS broadcast, surpassing even the highly rated championship duels featuring teams such as Marshall and Boise State on CBS in the mid-1990s.

REGIONAL EXPOSURE
  • Thanks in large part to the demand of 76,000 engaged alumni living in North Carolina's major population centers, Appalachian State has a consistent presence on television, radio and in print in each of the four markets listed above, as well as Raleigh-Durham, which is the nation's 25th-largest market with 1,131,310 households.
  • Television stations from all four markets that serve Boone regularly cover Appalachian State home football games and select road games.
  • The Winston-Salem Journal and Charlotte Observer (North Carolina's largest newspaper in terms of circulation) cover all Appalachian State football games, home and away, with an in-person reporter.
  • The Raleigh News & Observer, which like the Charlotte Observer is owned by the McClatchy Company, also prints much of the Observer's ASU coverage, giving Appalachian a regular presence in the state's two largest newspapers.

DIGITAL EXPOSURE
  • GoASU TV, Appalachian State's subscription-based online video platform, had a total of 39,218 unique viewers over the course of six live football broadcasts in 2011.
  • GoASU.com, Appalachian State's official athletics website, had 2,825,000 million visitors and 6,900,000 page views during the 2011 football season.
  • Appalachian State football's official Facebook page has over 43,000 followers.
  • Appalachian State athletics official Twitter feed has over 6,500 followers.
