MADISON, Miss. – The Sun Belt Conference Championship tournament begins Monday for App State Men's Golf and runs through Thursday at The Annandale Golf Club outside of Jackson in central Mississippi.
The tournament features three rounds of stroke play from Monday through Wednesday on the par-72, 7,190-yard layout. Following 54 holes of stroke play, the top four teams will advance to match play semifinals Thursday morning. The championship match will follow the conclusion of the semifinal matches.
App State's five-player lineup for Monday's opening round (with the top four scores counting toward the team score) will consist of
Herman Huus,
Ben Read,
Alex Martin,
Max Cranford and
Cole Bergheim.
Rob Bergevin will also be a lineup option following the first round.
Huus is set to make his fourth appearance at the Sun Belt Championship. He leads the team with a 72.63 scoring average, just ahead of Read's 72.67, and has five top-20 finishes this season, including a tie for third at the Temple Invitational in September. Earlier this month, Huus tied for seventh with a 1-under total at the Irish Creek Collegiate in Kannapolis, where the Mountaineers placed second out of 11 teams.
All six traveling Mountaineers have shot a round of at least 2 under this season, led by Cranford's 64 in the final round of the Bash in the Boro event. Huus, Martin, Read and Bergevin have all posted at least one 67 this year, while Bergheim has recorded multiple 70s.
