BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. — Led by a tie for 26th place from
Alex Martin, App State Men's Golf finished 13th among 19 teams Tuesday in a strong, deep field at the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by West Virginia.
Entering the final round, App State was tied for seventh place, behind just six power conference programs, including five with top-40 national team rankings.
That meant being grouped in the final round with Baylor, TCU and sixth-ranked reigning national champion Oklahoma State, with
Herman Huus playing in the same group as OSU's Ethan Fang, who was competing in The Masters four days earlier.
Clemson won the team title, and App State finished at 28 over.
In the early going, Martin was tied for the individual lead at 4 under with five birdies through the first 10 holes. He was tied for fourth place at 3 under after 18 holes and ended up with a 3-over total (69-76-74—219).
Huus finished at 8 over (71-80-73—224), followed by
Max Cranford at 11 over (77-74-76—227),
Ben Read at 12 over (76-73-79—228) and
Rob Bergevin at 26 over (87-74-81—242).
About two miles away,
Cole Bergheim and
Aidan Browning competed in the Bridgeport Collegiate Individual at the Bridgeport Country Club.
Bergheim closed the 54-hole event with a 1-under 71 and placed seventh with a 4-over total, while Browning finished 16th at 12 over.
App State's 2026 spring season is presented by Hound Ears Club. The Mountaineers begin play at the Sun Belt Championship tournament in Madison, Miss., on April 27.
