POINT CLEAR, Ala. — App State Women's Golf posted its best finish at the Sun Belt Championship tournament since 2017, placing sixth in the 13-team field after holding the opening-round lead at 3 under and entering the final round of stroke play in a tie for second place.
The top four teams through 54 holes advanced to Thursday's match play semifinals at The Lakewood Club. ULM led the way with a 7-over total, followed by South Alabama (16 over), Texas State (17 over) and Old Dominion (18 over). Coastal Carolina tied for fourth at 18 over before losing a playoff for the last match play spot to the Monarchs, and the sixth-seeded Mountaineers finished with a 22-over total (285-302-299—886, marking the fifth-best 54-hole total in program history).
App State true freshman
Zoe Duval tied for fifth place individually with a 2-under total (69-76-69—214), finishing five shots behind medalist Barbara Car of ODU, and App State true freshman
Alisa Pressley tied for 14th at 5 over (72-73-76—221). Duval had birdies on the 14th and 16th holes as Pressley made consecutive birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to keep App State within striking distance of a top-four team spot.
Duval recorded four birdies and one bogey in both her Monday and Wednesday rounds of 69. A late triple bogey in her second round was the only score above a bogey through 54 holes.
Ona Lukes tied for 30th at 9 over (72-77-76—225), and
Salem Lee tied for 38th at 12 over (72-77-79—228).
Maria Pinedo bounced back from a tough opening round to place 55th at 24 over (86-76-78—240).
App State's 3-under total of 285 on Monday tied for the second-lowest team round in program history, matching a 3-under 285 from the final round of the 2017 Sun Belt Championship. The Mountaineers were three shots ahead of second-place ULM thanks to four players ending the opening day within the top six on the individual leaderboard: Duval (69, third place), Lee (72), Lukes (72) and Pressley (72).
After 36 of 54 holes in Alabama, the Mountaineers were at 11 over, seven shots behind first-place ULM and seven shots ahead of the tie for fourth and fifth places between Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina. Thanks to a team-best 73 in the second round, Pressley joined Duval in a tie for eighth place at 1 over.
The Mountaineers finished 13th at the 2025 conference tournament but made significant strides with three new starters in their lineup for second-year head coach
Chan Metts, as two freshmen (Duval, Pressley) and one transfer (Pinedo) joined two returning starters (Lukes, Lee).
App State began the tournament with a season scoring average of 298.8, highlighted by three runner-up finishes in six spring events and seven of the top 10 team rounds in program history, including a record-setting 276 during the fall. Duval became the program's first top-five individual at the Sun Belt Championship since Joliana Elias, who tied for fourth in 2018 after tying for fifth in 2017.
