AWENDAW, S.C. — Herman Huus and
Ben Read posted under-par final rounds and recorded top-25 finishes to lead App State Men's Golf at the prestigious Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate that concluded Tuesday outside of Charleston, S.C.
Huus had under-par scores in all three rounds and tied for 16th place with a 4-under total (71-71-70—212) thanks to a strong finish Tuesday. He made an eagle on his 13th hole (hole No. 4) and then a birdie on the next hole before closing with four straight pars.
Read went under par in two of his three rounds and tied for 24th place with a 2-under total (70-73-71—214).
In a field with four top-45 teams, App State placed 15th with a 14-over total (283-299-296—878) after shooting a 5-under score in Sunday's opening round. Charleston won the team title, finishing ahead of South Carolina and three other top-45 teams from power conferences in Kansas, Purdue and Clemson.
Max Cranford had a 2-under 70 in the opening round, and
Alex Martin's even-par 72 also contributed to the 283 total.
