KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Layla Meric's tie for 11th place at 5 over and
Salem Lee's tie for 17th at 6 at the Tennessee Spring Challenge led App State Women's Golf, which closed the regular season by placing 10th in a strong field Monday.
The Mountaineers finished one shot behind recent Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate champion Wofford, which won the annual event hosted by App State last Tuesday in Morganton. After one round, the Mountaineers were in seventh place, just three shots behind 31st-ranked tournament host Tennessee.
All 36 holes were played Monday, and WKU won the team title by 11 strokes with a 1-over total. WKU's Kaylee Dwyer was the medalist at 4 under, prevailing by one stroke.
Meric had rounds of 74 and 75 on the par-72 layout in her third top-20 finish of the spring. Lee, like Meric, was tied for 12th place entering the final round before following a 74 with a 76 at Fox Den.
Playing as an individual,
Makena Dubois had a second straight strong showing with rounds of 79 and 77 to finish at 12 over.
Ona Lukes posted a 76 in the opening round before finishing at 18 over.
Jacquelyn Taylor had an opening-round 79 and
Mary-Sears Brown posted consecutive 82s as they finished at 20 over.
The 2024-25 season is presented by Hound Ears Club. The Mountaineers begin play at the Sun Belt Championship tournament in Alabama next Monday.
