MADISON, Miss. — Herman Huus had two under-par rounds and
Ben Read posted two rounds of par or better to lead App State Men's Golf at the Sun Belt Championship tournament at Annandale Golf Club.
As stroke play concluded Wednesday, with the Mountaineers finishing 14th via a 27-over total through 54 holes, Huus tied for 31st at 2 over (79-68-71—218) and Read tied for 55th at 8 over (71-81-72—224).
By going 5 under over his final 12 holes Tuesday, Huus climbed 34 spots with the best second round in the field. His 68 ranks as App State's second-lowest score in Sun Belt Championship play, after Candler Rice's 66 in 2019, and it tied for the second-best round among the 74 golfers who competed over the first three days of the 2025 tournament.
Huus then finished strong by playing his final five holes of the tournament at 4 under. His 5-under total over the final two rounds ranked second in the field.
Read was tied for 11th after his opening-round 71, and he bounced back from a difficult Day 2 by playing his first 14 holes of the final round at 3 under.
Aidan Browning's score counted in all three rounds, as he opened the event with a 1-over 73 and finished at 10 over (73-77-76—226).
Alex Martin began the tournament with a 4-over round and finished at 15 over (75-76-80—231).
Jack Seward competed in the opening two rounds, posting scores of 77 and 79.
Colin Browning entered the lineup for the final round and shot a 76.
The Mountaineers were tied for 10th place after Day 1 before falling to 14th entering the final round. They finished five shots behind 13th-place Old Dominion.
Coastal Carolina (14 under), Arkansas State (13 under), Georgia Southern (8 under) and Troy (6 under) advanced to Thursday's match play semifinals. Arkansas State's Jack Maxey (70-69-71—210) and Louisiana's Eli Ortego (70-69-71—210) both completed stroke play at 6 under, with Maxey winning the individual title via a three-hole playoff.
The 2024-25 season was presented by Hungry Howie's and Penn Station.
