DURHAM, N.C. – The App State men's and women's track & field team opened competition at the Duke Invitational on Friday, tallying 11 top-20 finishes on the day.
Redshirt senior
Calbert Guest secured second in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:00.16, and was followed closely by junior
Ethan Lipham, who placed fourth with a time of 9:06.85. Lipham's time moved him to 10th in the App State all-time list. Guest remains fourth in the list with a time of 8:54.06, which he recorded during the 2023 campaign.
Junior
Ray Lee advanced to Saturday's men's 100-meter final after stopping the clock at 10.56 to place fourth in the prelims.
In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, senior
Emma Russum stopped the clock at 10:34.13 to place seventh. Her time elevated her to second in the App State all-time list, just shy of the school record of 10:31.33, which was set in 2019 by Kate Butler.
With a leap of 1.86m (6' 1.25"), sophomore
Jared Hiatt tied for fourth in the Group B section of the men's high jump. Hiatt also landed 12th in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.89m (22' 7.25"), while freshman
Kendred Walker rounded out the top-25 with a leap of 6.50m (21' 4").
Freshman
Christopher Stewart placed ninth in the men's discus (46.67m (153' 1")) and 18th in the men's shot put (15.13m (49' 7.75")). Junior
Jeremiah Burch Jr. joined Stewart in the men's discus top-20 with a toss of 45.43m (149' 0"). Sophomore
Dianna Boykin and freshman Brittnay Ellis finished among the top-25 in the women's discus (39.22m (128' 8")) and the women's shot put (11.66m (38' 3.25")), respectively.
On the track, senior
Linnea Maynard stopped the clock at 17:24.90 to place 31st overall in the women's 5,000 meters, while graduate student
Ethan Turner recorded a time of 3:51.18 to place 35th out of 121 competitors in the men's 1,500 meters.
Competition at the Duke Invitational resumes on Saturday with field events starting at 11 a.m. and track events scheduled for noon.
