App State Tennis Dedicates Court One and New Scoreboard

BOONE, N.C. – A special moment in App State history unfolded on Sunday, March 23, as two significant pieces of the new App State Tennis Courts at the Appalachian 105 Complex were officially dedicated to a pair of individuals whose legacies have left a lasting impact on the University and its athletics.

Court one is now known as Keith Richardson Court, while the brand-new C. Philip Byers Scoreboard proudly overlooks all six courts. Richardson and Byers were recognized in a pre-match ceremony prior to the Mountaineers' dominant 4-1 victory over East Carolina.

Richardson, a 1985 inductee in the App State Athletics Hall of Fame, stands as one of the winningest tennis players in App State history, boasting an incredible 109-11 career record. His achievements on the court, which included three Southern Conference singles titles, two doubles titles and four NCAA appearances, helped lay the foundation for the success of Mountaineer Tennis for years to come.

C. Philip Byers, who serves on the University of North Carolina System Board of Governors, is a 1985 App State graduate and longtime supporter of his alma mater and App State Athletics.

Other courts will be dedicated in the future at both the outdoor courts and the forthcoming Mildred F. Southern Indoor Tennis Complex.
