Mountaineers Fall to North Texas in NIT Opener, Cap Off Historic Season

ROME, Ga. — The App State tennis team fell to North Texas, 4-1, in the first round of the UTR Sports NIT Championship on Wednesday.

What Happened
The Mountaineers (17-7, 9-2 SBC) conceded the doubles point to start the day, dropping matches on courts one and three. The pair of Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Ruby Broadbent was tied at five games apiece when their match was abandoned due to North Texas clinching the point.

With the Mountaineers down one point heading into singles, North Texas continued its momentum with a win on court four. Dada-Mascoll earned the Mountaineers' only point of the day shortly after, winning 6-2, 6-2.

Trailing 2-1 after Dada-Mascoll's straight-set win, the Mountaineers dropped matches on courts three and five, pushing the Mean Green past the four-point threshold to clinch the victory and advance in the tournament.

The matches of Naledi Manyube and Broadbent went unfinished due to North Texas clinching.

Record-Breaking Season Comes to a Close
The Mountaineers have wrapped up their 2025 campaign by reaching new heights. This year, App State Tennis posted a program-high 17 wins, including eight consecutive Sun Belt victories and 10 straight overall wins. The team also matched the program record of nine SBC wins, originally set in 2019.

Savannah Dada-Mascoll capped off another standout season with a 19-2 overall singles record, winning 11 consecutive matches to close the year, all at the No. 1 position. In doubles, she posted a 13-5 record, including a 7-2 mark against conference opponents. She was named Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week on April 9, earned her 100th career win against UNC Asheville and reached as high as No. 58 in the national doubles rankings alongside Isabela Romanichen.

App State earned both conference and national recognition, with Dada-Mascoll, Manyube and Taya Powell all receiving All-SBC honors. The team also broke into the top 75 of the ITA rankings for the first time since 2020.

The 2024–25 season is presented by Hound Ears Club.
