Taylor Leads Women's Golf in Spring Opener

PALM CITY, Fla. — Led by a tie for 24th place from Jacquelyn Taylor, App State Women's Golf placed 12th out of 18 teams and second among three Sun Belt teams at the Advance Golf Partner Collegiate hosted by UNCG.
 
Taylor finished with a 6-over total of 222 thanks to rounds of 73, 75 and 74 in the 54-hole event, which concluded Tuesday on the par-72 layout at Hammock Creek. She had two birdies in her 1-over first round.
 
The Mountaineers were eighth after an opening-round team total of 300 that counted no score above a 76, and they finished at 51 over (300-307-308—915). Virginia Tech posted a 22-under total and won the team title by 36 strokes.
 
Salem Lee, who had an opening-round eagle, tied for 51st with a 12-over 228 via three straight 76s, while Layla Meric tied for 55th at 13 over (75-76-78—229).
 
Ona Lukes had one of the first-round 76s and finished at 20 over. Playing as an individual, Mary-Sears Brown improved her score every day, closing with a 76. Makena Dubois' top round was an 85 on Tuesday.
 
The 2024-25 season is presented by Hound Ears Club. App State plays at Cedarwood Country Club in Charlotte on March 17 and then competes in the City of Oaks Collegiate hosted by NC State in Raleigh from March 21-22.
