LAS VEGAS — All five competing App State wrestlers won at least one match at the high-profile Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Friday, highlighted by
Kaden Keiser's finish among the final 12 at 149 pounds.
Keiser (2-2),
Jarvis Little (2-2 at 133 pounds),
Jeremiah Price (1-2 at 157 pounds) and
Tomas Brooker (1-2 at 184 pounds) were all in the final 16 of their brackets, with Keiser advancing from that consolation round via an 8-6 decision against Edinboro's Ryan Michaels.
Aldo Hernandez went 1-2 at 141 pounds, and an under-the-weather
Stephan Monchery was unable to compete.
Of App State's 10 losses, nine were against ranked opponents in one of the nation's toughest regular season tournaments. Keiser and Little each recorded a ranked victory.
Keiser dropped an 8-2 decision against No. 24 Alek Martin from South Dakota State after beating Michaels, who recorded a first-period takedown for a 3-0 lead in their matchup. Keiser responded with a reversal to trail 4-2 after one period, and his second-period takedown cut his deficit to 6-5 entering the third period. He executed another reversal to take a 7-6 lead and rode out the final 1:12.
That victory followed a 14-6 major decision against No. 33 Paul Kelly from Cal Baptist. Keiser broke a 4-all tie with a second-period takedown and four near fall points.
Little won two of his first three matches, claiming a 7-3 decision against Utah Valley's Geronimo Rivera and following a ranked loss with a 4-2 decision against No. 28 Blake Boarman, a redshirt senior who transferred to Purdue after reaching the 2025 SoCon final as a Chattanooga wrestler. Little's first-period takedown was the difference in that match.
Price had a tiebreaking takedown with 48 seconds left in a 4-2 victory against Cornell's Benny Rogers sandwiched between a pair of losses to ranked foes, and Brooker won an 11-1 major decision against Harvard's Matthew Walsh between losses to a pair of top-20 opponents. Brooker had two takedowns in the third period of a 15-10 loss to top-seeded and seventh-ranked Brock Mantanona from Michigan.
Hernandez, whose two losses were both to ranked opponents, recorded a tiebreaking takedown with 29 seconds left in an 8-6 decision against Drew Gorman from Virginia Tech.
The 2025-26 season is presented by Hungry Howie's and Penn Station. Six other App State wrestlers will compete Sunday at the Patriot Open in Fairfax, Va., and the Mountaineers' next dual is scheduled for Dec. 17 at Duke.
