BOONE, N.C. — The App State field hockey team will hit the road for Indiana, taking on MAC opponent Ball State on Friday at 1 p.m. The Mountaineers will then make a quick stop in Winston-Salem, N.C., to take on No. 6 Wake Forest in the last nonconference matchup of the season on Sunday at noon.
The Mountaineers (11-4, 5-2 MAC) are looking to get back in the win column, having recently fallen to No. 17 UMass 3-0 last Sunday.
Claire Grenis had a career day against the Minutewomen, tallying 12 saves in the contest.

Scouting the Mountaineers
Through 15 games, the Mountaineers are second in the MAC in assists per game (2.67), goals per game (3.53), points per game (9.73), scoring average (3.52) and win percentage (.773), while also ranking top-10 nationally in goals per game, points per game and scoring average.
Lise Boekaar has been on a tear this season, leading the MAC in assists (19) and total points (41) while also tied for fifth in goals (11) with
Sophia Baxter. She is second in the nation in assists per game (1.27) and seventh in points per game (2.73). Her performance during the opening weekend earned her the MAC Offensive Player of the Week honor after she was responsible for the team's first 10 goals of the season.
Boekaar currently holds the App State record for the most assists in a single season (19), along with the most career assists in App State field hockey history, breaking the record with her 32nd career assist against Central Michigan on Oct. 10. She currently has 34 for her career, continuing to add to her total.
On the defensive end, Baxter has been a force, earning three Defensive Player of the Week awards this season, most recently coming after wins over Central Michigan and Michigan State. Baxter is currently tied with Boekaar for the most goals scored, with 11 from the center back position.
The 2025 team features three players who earned All-MAC selections in 2024. Midfielder Boekaar was named to the All-MAC First Team and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) South Region First Team.
Henriette Stegen was named to the All-MAC Second Team, while
Frederique Grimbergen earned a spot on the All-MAC Freshman Team.
Six Mountaineers are on the 2025 NFHCA Division I Watch List: returning players Baxter, Boekaar, Grimbergen and Stegen, and newcomers
Kate Richardson and
Calista Schwartz. Baxter represented the Mountaineers at the Senior Nexus Championship last summer.
Scouting the Cardinals
Ball State (4-13, 2-5 MAC) enters the matchup after a 5-13 (4-4 MAC) season in 2024. Most recently, the Cardinals fell to No. 18 Miami, 5-0, on the road in Oxford, Ohio. Ball State is coached by Caitlin Walsh, who is in her fourth year at the helm of the program.
Scouting the Demon Deacons
No. 6 Wake Forest (13-2, 6-0 ACC) enters the matchup after a 7-11 (2-6 ACC) season in 2024. In their last game, the Demon Deacons took down No. 19 California, 6-2, at home. Wake Forest has had great wins this season, taking down No. 4 Syracuse, No. 13 Boston College, No. 2 North Carolina, No. 18 Louisville and taking down Miami (Ohio) all in a five-game stretch. The Demon Deacons are led by head coach Jennifer Averill, who is in her 33rd season at the helm.
