STATESBORO, Ga. — App State Men's Golf newcomer
Max Cranford surged to a fifth-place finish at the Bash in the Boro event Tuesday thanks to an 8-under score of 64 in the final round.
Cranford competed as an individual whose score didn't count toward the team total in the fall finale for App State, which placed sixth in the 12-team field with a 5-over score (292-284-293—869).
Ben Read tied for 16th with a 2-under total for the 54-hole event, and
Herman Huus tied for 20th at 1 under.
Cranford entered Round 2 at 4 over and the final round with an even-par total before finishing at 8 under (76-68-64—208). His 64 tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score in program history and matched Sverrir Haraldsson's 8-under 63 from the final round of the 2022 Bash at the Beach tournament for the lowest 18-hole score relative to par in program history.
Cranford bogeyed his first hole (No. 12) on Tuesday at Forest Heights Country Club but played his final 15 holes at 9 under and completed his final 36 holes at 12 under. He was 56th in the 81-player field after one round.
Read was tied for seventh entering the final round before finishing at 72-67-75—214, while Huus wrapped up play with a 73-72-70—215 total.
Rob Bergevin started well and tied for 39th at 5 over (71-74-76—221), and
Alex Martin tied for 49th at 7 over (76-73-74—223).
Cole Bergheim tied for 54th at 8 over (78-72-74—224).
Tournament host Georgia Southern won the team title, while golfers from Campbell and Jacksonville State shared medalist honors at 10 under.
