JEFFERSON, N.C. — App State Men's Golf competed alongside Queens on Wednesday at the two-team Jefferson Landing Collegiate.
With a format that called for the top four scores to count from six-player teams on each side, App State finished with a 14-over total (289-285—574) to place six shots behind Queens (8-over total).
The Mountaineers' top individual performers were
Alex Martin (69-75—144) and
James Gradisek (73-71—144). They tied for fifth place with 4-over totals. Making his collegiate debut, freshman
Charlie O'Shea had five birdies in a 2-under 68 to finish with a 5-over total of 145.
Rob Bergevin posted back-to-back 73s for a 6-over total, followed by individual competitor
Ben Locker at 7 over (71-76—147).
Jack Seward closed with a 73, and individual competitor
Aidan Browning's opening-round 73 included a 4-under 31 on the front side with one eagle and two birdies.
John Fahey from Queens led the way with an even-par total (69-71—140), followed by Ed Davis (68-73—141) and Thomas Taylor-Cross (71-71—142).
The 2024-25 season is presented by Hound Ears Club.
