MADISON, Miss. — Led by under-par rounds on back-to-back days from
Herman Huus and fifth-year senior
Sverrir Haraldsson, App State Men's Golf tied for 12th place at the Sun Belt Championship tournament.
In a 14-team field, the Mountaineers posted a 40-over total (311-293-300—904) through 54 holes of stroke play on the par-72 layout at Annandale Golf Club.
Highlighted by a 2-under 70 in the second round, Huus tied for 27th overall with a 6-over total (78-70-74—222). Haraldsson closed with five birdies in a 1-under round of 71 to tie for 36th place with a 9-over total (80-74-71—225).
Addison Beam tied for 42nd place at 10 over (75-74-77—226), while
Colin Browning tied for 56th at 16 over (78-76-78—232).
Aidan Browning and
Alex Martin both made their Sun Belt Championship debuts, with Browning shooting 75 and 79 over the final two rounds. Martin had an opening-round 83.
The Mountaineers moved up two spots in the team standings after the second round, helped by a 5-over team score of 293 that ranked eighth in the field that day.
Arkansas State, the only team with an under-par total through 54 holes, advanced to the match play semifinals as the top seed. ULM, Marshall and Texas State also advanced.
South Alabama's Hugo Thyr and Arkansas State's Thomas Schmidt both finished with 4-under totals to lead the field. Thyr won a three-hole playoff to claim medalist honors.
