ATLANTA, Ga. – The App State men's and women's track and field team rounded out competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational with a shiny new men's pole vault record. The Mountaineers accumulated 64 top-25 finishes and also set a new men's 5,000-meter school record, in addition to the new men's pole vault record, between the Georgia Tech Invitational and Wake Forest Invitational.
Freshman
Matthew Gray set the App State record in the men's pole vault with a personal best clearance of 5.33m (17' 5.75"). His mark surpassed the previous record of 5.32m (17' 5.25"), which was set in 1998 by Todd Poremba. Senior
Patrick Freeman took sixth (4.92m (16' 1.75")) and
Matthew Bigelow took seventh (4.77m (15' 7.75")).
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of freshmen
Nicole Wells and
Sierra Smith, senior
Taylor Smith, and freshman
Jayla Adams placed second with a time of 44.93, which is 0.20 from the 1989 program record of 44.73.
Taylor Smith and
Sierra Smith went on to place seventh (23.82) and ninth (23.93) in the women's 200 meters. Wells, junior
Mariah McCord, freshman
Kendall Johnson, and sophomore
Daye Talley also finished among the top-25 in the women's 200 meters.
Sierra Smith and Adams also made appearances in the women's 400 meters alongside sophomore
Addison Ollendick-Smith. Adams took eighth (55.19),
Sierra Smith took 16th (55.79), and Ollendick-Smith rounded out the top-25 with a personal best time of 56.81.
Senior
Niejel Wilkins landed third in the men's triple jump with a leap of 15.62m (51' 3"). His leap moved him to seventh in the App State all-time list. In the men's discus, seniors

Chris Wainscott took third (50.62m (166' 1")) and fourth (49.24m (161' 6")), respectively. Sophomore
Jeremiah Burch Jr. took 14th with a toss of 43.60m (143' 0").

Harrison Robinson, and senior
Cole Krehnbrink placed fourth with a time of 41.01. Krehnbrink went on to anchor the men's 4x400 meter relay for the Mountaineers. The quartet of sophomore

Jabari Dalton, freshman
Davis Hunt, and Krehnbrink stopped the clock at 3:12.93 to place sixth. Kinney and Krehnbrink also placed 12th (47.23, PR) and 16th (47.47, PR), respectively, in the men's 400 meters. Kinney remains fifth in the program all-time list, while Krehnbrink moves to sixth in the event. After running the first leg of the men's 4x100-meter relay, Ferguson also registered a 13th-place finish in the men's 200 meters with a time of 21.62.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles,
Jabari Dalton finished sixth with a personal best time of 52.60 and freshman
Davis Hunt clocked a time of 54.96 to place 22nd. Dalton is now tied for eighth in the program all-time list. In the women's 400-meter hurdles, graduate student
Alexia Moehling took 13th with a time of 1:02.34, which keeps her at fifth in the App State all-time list.
Senior
Megan Plummer took ninth in the women's discus with a personal best toss of 40.74m (133' 8"). Sophomore
Nadiyah Byard recorded a clearance of 1.60m (5' 3") to tie for 11th in the women's high jump, while freshman
Jared Hiatt took 13th in the men's high jump with a clearance of 1.91m (6' 3.25"). Freshman
Rhys Ammon recorded a personal best of 2:13.22 to place 17th in the women's 800 meters, which also moved her to 10th in the App State all-time list. Seniors
Jasmine Donohue and
Elizabeth Fuller each finished among the top-25 with personal best times of 2:13.84 (21st overall) and 2:14.92 (25th) respectively.
Friday Rewind
On Friday, junior
Garrett Bivens set the tone for the day by setting a new men's 5,000-meter school record, stopping the clock at 14:18.05, at the Wake Forest Invitational. Bivens placed fourth overall in the race. The previous record was 14:19.97, which was set in 2005 by Joe Halin.
At the Georgia Tech Invitational, sophomore
Ava Studney landed third with a clearance of 3.80m (12' 5.5") in the women's pole vault. Graduate students
Noelle Meeker and
Celia Agee tied for sixth and 11th, respectively, with clearances of 3.65m (11' 11.75"). In the men's shot put, Wainscott earned bronze with a toss of 16.44m (53' 5.75"), while Karl took fourth with a toss of 16.30m (53' 5.75"). Wainscott also placed seventh in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 56.90m (186' 8"). In the women's hammer throw, junior
Daiyanna Cooper rounded out the top-five in the with a toss of 53.26m (174' 9"). She also rounded out the top-15 in the women's shot put with a toss of 12.99m (42' 7.5").
The Mountaineers saw fifth-place finishes in the men's 110-meter hurdles and women's 100 meters as well. Sophomore
Harrison Robinson stopped the clock at 14.34 in the men's 110-meter hurdles while
Taylor Smith recorded a time of 11.63 in the women's 100 meters.
