BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. — With a 3-under 69 from sixth-place finisher
Herman Huus highlighting a stellar final round from the entire team, App State Men's Golf placed eighth in a 16-team field Tuesday at the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by West Virginia.
Alex Martin and
Sverrir Haraldsson had 1-under 71s in the final round, while
Addison Beam and
Colin Browning posted even-par 72s as the Mountaineers recorded a 5-under 283 — the third-best final-round score at the Pete Dye Golf Club.
Huus, who opened the tournament with a hole-out eagle from the fairway, tied for sixth with a 3-under total of 213 thanks to rounds of 73, 71 and 69. He accounted for four of App State's 24 birdies Tuesday, with all four occurring during a 3-under 33 over his final nine holes.
The Mountaineers finished with a 26-over total (300-307-283—890) while improving their score by 24 strokes from Round 2, which included a weather delay, to Round 3. West Virginia's 18-under total gave it a 28-shot advantage over runner-up Marshall, and WVU's Carson Kammann won the individual title by one stroke with a 10-under total.
Beam tied for 29th at 6 over (73-77-72—222), and Martin tied for 42nd at 10 over (76-79-71—226).
App State's 2024 spring season is presented by Hound Ears Club. The Mountaineers wrap up the season next week at the Sun Belt Championship tournament, which begins Monday in Madison, Miss.
