Mountaineers Set to Host Louisiana and Texas State for Weekend Matchup

BOONE, N.C. – App State Tennis is set to host Louisiana and Texas State in a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches this week to round out the end of March. App State is currently on a four-match winning streak after defeating ULM and Arkansas State last week.

Who: App State (10-5, 4-1 SBC) vs Louisiana (4-7, 1-4 SBC)
When: 10 a.m.
Where: Boone, N.C. – Deer Valley Athletic Club
 
Saturday
Who: App State vs Texas State (9-3, 3-1 SBC)
When: 10 a.m.
Where: Boone N.C. – Watauga High School
 
 
On the Mountaineers
App State is tied with Marshall for second place in the Sun Belt Conference with 4-1 league record behind No. 68 ranked Old Dominion (4-0). The Mountaineers have two players with double-digit win totals this season. Sophomore Savannah Dada-Mascoll leads the team with 12 consecutive singles wins, which is the most wins in a row for App State in the Sun Belt era. Dada-Mascoll remains perfect with a 5-0 record in conference play. Graduate student Maggie Pate has reached 10 singles wins for the first time as a Mountaineer, which marks the third time in her career she's had 10 or more wins in a season.
 
On the Ragin' Cajuns'
Louisiana enters the weekend having lost four of its last five matches. The Ragin' Cajuns' Carla Urchoeguia leads the team with five wins as their No. 1 singles player. Louisiana has two players tied with four wins in singles play.
 
On the Bobcats
Texas State comes into the weekend having won four of its last five matches. The Bobcats currently stand one match behind the Mountaineers in the conference standings. Andrea Pineda and Callie Creath lead the Bobcats with 10 wins in singles play. The tandem of Maria Lora and Sofia Fortuno leads the team in doubles wins at eight. Texas State will travel to Marshall on Thursday before facing the Mountaineers on Sunday.
 
Next Up
App State will hit the road for the last time in regular season play for its next three matches. The Mountaineers will face Southern Miss on April 6, South Alabama on April 7 and Marshall on April 13. App State will close out the 2024 regular season at home against Old Dominion on April 20 for a Senior Day matchup.
