BOONE, N.C. – App State Tennis is set to face ULM and Arkansas State on the road this weekend. The Mountaineers went a perfect 2-0 at home last weekend and are currently in fourth place in the conference.
Taya Powell was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Wednesday, marking just the third time in program history that the Mountaineers have received back-to-back recipients of the weekly honor.
On the Mountaineers
App State comes into the weekend having won its first two home conference matches against Georgia State and Troy to stay unbeaten at home this season. Powell went 3-0 last weekend, winning both of her singles matches on Court 2 while also clinching the doubles point on Sunday against Troy's No. 1 tandem of Kristina Kukaras/Maria Guirguis 6-4.
Sophomore
Savannah Dada-Mascoll continued her hot streak in singles play, picking up two more wins in the No. 1 spot for App State. The Yorkshire, England, native has now won 10 straight singles matches, making her the first Mountaineer to reach double-digit wins in singles play this season.
Olwyn Ryan-Bovey secured her first win in both singles and doubles play last week after defeating Georgia State's Sara Radojevic 6-2, 6-3 on Court 4 in singles play. She also teamed up with freshman
Naledi Manyube as App State's No. 2 doubles pairing and defeated Georgia State's and Troy's No. 2 doubles tandems, playing a key role in both wins for the Mountaineers.
On the Warhawks
ULM comes into Saturday having lost its last five matches. The Warhawks have lost both their conference matches this season, dropping their opener to in-state rival Louisiana and most recently to Arkansas State. ULM has three players who are currently tied for the most singles wins on the team with three.
On the Red Wolves
Arkansas State comes into the weekend having won three of its last five matches, which included a 4-0 win over ULM last weekend. Arkansas State will host Marshall on Saturday before hosting the Mountaineers on Sunday. The Red Wolves have four players tied for the most singles wins on the team at seven in its 2024 campaign.
Next up
The Mountaineers will return home to close out the month of March against Louisiana and Texas State. The Black and Gold will host Louisiana on March 29 and then Texas State on March 30. Live stats will be provided via appstatesports.com.
