Mountaineers Sail into Johnson City to Face the Buccaneers

Johnson City, Tenn. – The Mountaineers will continue their road trip with a quick turn-around trip to Johnson City, Tenn. to face the ETSU Buccaneers on Tuesday. This will be the third of four road matches to close out the month of February for App State.

On the Mountaineers
App State Tennis is coming off its first road win of the season against Gardner-Webb last Sunday. Graduate student Maggie Pate continues to shine for the Mountaineers as she remains unbeaten in singles play (5-0). Overall, Pate has loss just once this season, coming in doubles play against Virginia Tech on Feb. 10.
 
The Florida native has been successful in three different positions for App State this season. She's 3-0 as the primary No. 3 singles player including wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots this season.
 
Pate and her doubles partner Taya Powell are unbeaten in doubles play this season with a 3-0 record and secured their first win as the No. 1 pairing for the Mountaineers on Sunday.
 
Powell is also unbeaten in singles play at 3-0 playing primarily at the No. 2 slot for App State. Sophomore Savannah Dada-Mascoll has won her last two matches as App State's No. 1 singles player.
 
Dada-Mascoll was awarded SBC Player of the Week last week with her come-from-behind performance against Virginia Tech's No. 1 Katie Andreini.
 
On the Buccaneers
ETSU is 3-4 on its season winning three of its last five matches coming into today. The Buccaneers have picked up victories against Middle Tennessee State and Lipscomb, and secured a 7-0 shutout conference victory over UNC Greensboro last week.
 
ETSU has four players with three or more singles wins on the season. Sofia Markova has a 5-2 record as the Buccaneers No. 1. With Ralitsa Alexandrova and Daniela Rivera each having four wins apiece for ETSU this season.
 
Next up
App State will conclude its season-high four-game road trip against Elon on Feb. 25., before returning to the High Country on March 1 to face Duquesne. It will be the first of three-straight for The Mountaineers as they will host Western Carolina on March 2 and travel to Radford on March 3.
