App State Heads to Michigan for Two-Game Road Swing

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Continuing a three-game road trip, the App State Mountaineers (5-4, 1-1 MAC) will head to Mount Pleasant, Mich., for a two-game swing where they will face the Central Michigan Chippewas (1-7, 0-2 MAC) on Friday and the Lindenwood Lions (1-5) on Saturday. First touch against Central Michigan is set for noon, while Saturday's match against Lindenwood is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday's game will be streamed on Chippewas All Access.
 
The Mountaineers are 1-1 in the MAC this season and have won their only other conference road game this season, beating the Bellarmine Knights on Sept. 15, in Louisville. App State has already matched their conference road win total from last season with one.
 
The Black & Gold have played six of their nine games this season away from Brandon & Erica M. Adcock Field, posting a 4-2 record in those six games, and have won eight of their last 10 road games. The Mountaineers are averaging 2.33 goals per road game this season.
 
With Lise Boekaar's assist on Hadley Kuzmicky's goal in the final minute of Sunday's game against the No. 2 North Carolina Tar Heels, 15 Mountaineers have now recorded a point this season. Of those 15, 13 have recorded two or more points and 10 players have scored a goal. The Mountaineers are currently third in the MAC with 51 points.
 
"The resiliency of the team has been on display this season," head coach Emily Dinsmore said. "Even during a very difficult weekend where there were lots of ups and downs, this team showed that they were still able fight and not give up against two tough teams. That never give up mentality is something we can carry into this weekend and throughout the remainder of the season."

Last Time Out
App State fell to the No. 2 North Carolina Tar Heels 6-1 last Sunday.
 
Fifth-year goalkeeper Addie Clark posted a season-high 10 saves, marking the first time she has tallied double-digit saves since Sept. 9, 2022, when she posted 13 saves against Duke. Clark also notched her sixth shutout half of the season and helped lead the Mountaineer defense to a second-half victory over the second-ranked team in the nation.
 
Sophomore forward Hadley Kuzmicky made her first career start and netted a last-minute goal against the Tar Heels off a broken attack penalty corner. The goal was Kuzmicky's second goal in her last three games.
 
Scouting the Mountaineers
The Mountaineers have played six of their nine games on the road this season, posting a 4-2 record in those games, and have won eight of their last 10 games away from Brandon & Erica M. Adcock Field. The Black & Gold are averaging 2.33 goals per road game this season.  
 
15 different Mountaineers have recorded a point this season coming into play on Friday. Of those 15, 13 have recorded multiple points and 10 players have scored at least one goal. Charlotte Bosma leads the Mountaineer offensive attack with 11 points on four goals and three assists.
 
Coming into play on Friday, App State finds themselves atop the MAC Conference in assists with 19. Sarah Perkins leads both the team and the MAC Conference with four assists, while four other Mountaineers have posted two or more assists.
 
Head coach Emily Dinsmore became the first head coach in program history to win their MAC Conference opener, defeating the Bellarmine Knights on Sept. 15.
 
After a five-point performance against the Bellarmine Knights in the MAC opener, junior forward Charlotte Bosma finds herself in the top 10 of multiple offensive categories in the MAC, including goals scored (T-5th), assists (T-2nd) and points (5th). Bosma has already set career-highs in both points (11) and assists (3).
 
Scouting the Chippewas
The Chippewas won their first game of the season against Colgate but come into Friday's matchup against App State on a seven-game losing streak. The Chippewas did not score a goal in two games last weekend against Ball State and Michigan State, losing both.
 
The Central Michigan offensive attack is headlined by Amelia Lane, who leads the team in goals with two and points with four. Maja Halasz is the primary goalkeeper for Central Michigan and has saved 46 shots this season while allowing 31 goals.
 
Scouting the Lions
The Lions are 1-5 on the season and come into Saturday's matchup against the Mountaineers on a two-game losing streak.
 
Lindenwood has scored five goals this season with each goal being scored by a different player. Mia Simpson has recorded three points this season on one goal and one assist to lead the Lindenwood offense.  
 
Series History // Central Michigan
App State and Central Michigan have squared off 15 previous times, with the Mountaineers holding a 9-5 advantage in the all-time series. App State welcomed Central Michigan to Boone last season and beat the Chippewas 7-1.
 
 
Both Henriette Stegen and Lise Boekaar notched their first career goals last season against the Chippewas in the win. Stegen and Boekaar's goals were a part of a first half onslaught put up by the Mountaineers, as App State would score four times in the first 30 minutes of last year's win.  Five players on the roster have scored a goal against the Chippewas in their career.  
 
Series History // Lindenwood
The Mountaineers and the Lions met for the first time ever last October, when App State visited Lindenwood in Missouri. App State would leave Missouri with a 4-1 victory as part of their 10-game winning streak in 2022.
 
Bridget Donovan and Lise Boekaar each tallied a score against the Lions last season in the win. Donovan notched her first career multi-goal game against the Lions in 2022, scoring one goal in each half.
 
Coach's Thoughts
"We want to be disciplined in the small things this weekend and focus on the small details," Dinsmore said. "If we can keep both teams under pressure this weekend, we will find success."
