Last Time Out
App State picked up a 3-1 win on Friday against the Towson Tigers to start the season 1-0 for the second straight year. The Mountaineers have now won six consecutive games against Towson.

Charlotte Bosma netted a goal in the third minute of action on Friday's game and the Mountaineers would never trail again in the contest. Bosma would also record an assist in the game to give her three points for the day.

Goalkeeper Addie Clark was stellar between the posts all afternoon, recording five saves and only allowing one goal while picking up the win in the cage.

Scouting the Mountaineers
Coming off one of the best seasons in program history, culminating in the program's first-ever MAC championship game appearance, the Mountaineer field hockey team will look to build off a historic season under newly minted head coach Emily Dinsmore.

App State was picked to finish third in the 2023 MAC Conference standings by the league's coaches. The team finished third in the MAC last season after tying a program-record for wins in a season with 14 and rattling off a 10-game winning streak, which was the second longest winning-streak in program history.

The 2023 Mountaineer squad will feature five players who garnered All-MAC selections in 2022. Forward Sarah Farrell and goalkeeper Addie Clark earned All-MAC second-team honors, while the trio of Lise Boekaar, Henriette Stegen and Bridget Donovan were named to the All-MAC Freshman team. The 2023 team will also feature eight newcomers to the high country.

The Mountaineers led the MAC in shutouts in 2022 with seven. The defense was anchored by senior defender Grace Ball, who played in every minute of every game last season, and Addie Clark, who finished second in the MAC in both save percentage (0.779) and goals against average (1.09).

Ball and Clark will serve as team captains of the 2023 squad. Ball was a team captain last year, while Clark served as the vice-captain.

Scouting the Hoyas
The Hoyas lost a close contest to the Davidson Wildcats in their season-opener on Friday. Georgetown finished the 2022 season with a 3-16 record and did not win a single Big East game in 2022.

Georgetown's also enters the Sunday's contest on a 14-game losing streak. They have not won a match since Sept. 11, 2022.

Series History
This will be the third straight year that the Mountaineers and the Hoyas will play one another. App State won last year's contest 5-0, which is the largest margin of victory for the Mountaineers over the Hoyas in the series history.

The two teams have squared off 13 previous times with Georgetown leading the head-to-head series 7-6. Dinsmore has never faced the Hoyas in her coaching career.

Sophomore Bridget Donovan netted her first career goal against the Hoyas in last year's 5-0 win. Lise Boekaar would also tally her first career assist in the win over Georgetown in 2022.

Coach's Thoughts
"If we continue to control our attitude and our effort and we go out as a collective unit that plays for the sister to the right and the sister to left of us, we're going to find a lot of success together this season," Dinsmore said.
