BOONE, N.C. – App State field hockey has announced its 2023 fall schedule, highlighted by six home games and a trio of nonconference contests against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.
The Mountaineers will open the season in Towson, Md. with matchups against Towson (Aug. 25) and Georgetown (Aug. 27). Their home opener will take place the next weekend with games against Drexel (Sept. 1) and Davidson (Sept. 3).
The Black and Gold will then face a string of opponents on the road as they gear up for Mid-American Conference play. App State will visit James Madison, who is set to join the MAC at the beginning of the 2024-25 season, on Sept. 8, before traveling to Wake Forest on Sept. 10. In 2021, the Mountaineers defeated the Dukes to earn their first ranked win in program history.
The Mountaineers will then see Bellarmine on the road to open their conference schedule on Sept. 15. A week later, the Miami RedHawks will come to Boone for a MAC Championship rematch on Sept. 22.
Following that game, App State will hit the road to face North Carolina on Sept. 24. The Tar Heels have won four of the last five national championships and come off an undefeated 2022 season.
The Mountaineers will continue their road stretch with games against Central Michigan (Sept. 29) and Lindenwood (Sept. 30) before coming home to host Kent State on Oct. 6, who they defeated in the MAC semifinals to claim their 10th straight win and first MAC championship appearance in school history last fall.
Following that matchup will be away games against Longwood (Oct. 13), Queens (Oct. 15), Ball State (Oct. 20) and Louisville (Oct. 22).
App State will close the regular season at home with contests against Ohio (Oct. 27) and Saint Louis (Oct. 29). The season finale against the Billikens will serve as senior day for the Mountaineers.
The MAC tournament will be played from Nov. 3-4 at Miami (OH).
Prior to the start of the season, fans will have two opportunities to get a first look at the Mountaineers in exhibition play. App State will host Liberty for a scrimmage on Aug. 18 before visiting Wake Forest on Aug. 20. First-year head coach Emily Dinsmore graduated from Liberty in 2013.
