BOONE, N.C. – App State Soccer has announced its 2023 fall schedule, highlighted by eight home matches, including five contests against Sun Belt opponents in Boone.
The Mountaineers are coming off an undefeated spring season that included matches against Virginia Tech and South Carolina, building on a 2022 fall campaign that saw App State more than double its win total from the previous season by tallying its most Sun Belt wins since 2018.
The Mountaineers will open the regular season on Thursday, Aug. 17, when they face off with in-state foe Wake Forest in Winston-Salem at 7 p.m.
App State's home opener is set for Sunday, Aug. 20 at 1 p.m. against George Mason. App State will also host High Point on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 1 p.m. and Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, Sept. 3 at noon to round out the home portion of nonconference play.
The contest against FGCU will be senior day, as the Mountaineers will honor the senior members of the squad with a pregame ceremony.
The Black and Gold will wrap up their nonconference schedule with road trips to Western Carolina on Sept. 7, Radford on Sept. 10, and Liberty on Sept. 14. App State will also take on UT Martin in nonconference action on Aug. 24.
The Mountaineers open Sun Belt play with a matchup against Troy on Sunday Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. It will be Alumni Day at The Valley, and all former App State men's and women's soccer players are invited to attend a pregame tailgate. Registration information will be provided at a later date.
After heading to Conway, S.C., to face off with Coastal Carolina on Sept. 20, the Mountaineers will close out the month of September with back-to-back home matches, as they take on James Madison at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24 and Georgia Southern on Friday, Sept. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
Following a road trip to South Alabama on Oct. 5, the Mountaineers will be back in Boone to take on Marshall on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. App State will then hit the road for a matchup with reigning Sun Belt champion Old Dominion on Oct. 13 in Norfolk, Va.
App State's home finale is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 19, when it will tangle with Southern Miss at The Valley.
The Mountaineers will close out the 2023 regular season with a pair of road tilts, facing Arkansas State on Oct. 22 and Georgia State on Oct. 26.
The Sun Belt Conference tournament will be played Oct. 30 through Nov. 5 in Foley, Ala.
The Mountaineers will also play a pair of exhibition matches prior to their official opener — on the road against Charlotte on Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. and at home against Gardner-Webb on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 6 p.m.
