BOONE, NC – After last night's season-opening victory over Towson, App State field hockey (1-0) looks to continue its home success Sunday against the Georgetown Hoyas (0-1).
Sunday's game will start at noon at Brandon & Erica M. Adcock Field and can be streamed live on Twitch at twitch.tv/appstatesports. Live stats will be available at https://goapp.st/appstvsgeorgetown.
Graduate midfielder Anna Smarrelli led the way in App State's season opener with two goals that were both assisted by Carli Ciocco. All-MAC returners Friederike Stegen and Pauline Mangold scored a goal apiece to set the stage for the 2022 season.
The Mountaineers showed their depth Friday with 16 players earning 20+ minutes of action.
Georgetown started its season last night with a defensive grudge match against Davidson, eventually falling 1-0 to the Wildcats on the road. The Hoyas have eight returners, including their goalkeeper Ciara Weets, who was named First Team All-BIG EAST as well as Defensive Player of the Year in 2021.
These squads have split their last two meetings, each winning by a one-goal advantage.
After Sunday's game, the Mountaineers will go on their first road trip next weekend, visiting Rider on Friday at 7 p.m. and Drexel on Sunday at noon. Live stats and streaming options will be available at appstatesports.com.
