NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — App State Men's Golf had record-setting team and individual efforts to conclude the Bash at the Beach event Tuesday, with the Mountaineers and top finisher
Sverrir Haraldsson both posting runner-up performances in a deep field that included 15 teams.
App State's 22-under total of 830 over 54 holes put them in second, two strokes behind team champion Troy, and the Mountaineers' total included a 12-under 272 in the final round to set a program record for the lowest 18-hole tournament score in documented history.
Haraldsson set a program record for the lowest 18-hole tournament round by an individual with an 8-under 63 in the final round. A bogey-free, eight-birdie day enabled him to climb from 11
th place to second with an 11-under total of 73-66-63—202 that left him one stroke behind individual champion Tommy Dallahan of UConn. Dallahan shot a 65 on Tuesday.
The 202 from Haraldsson set a program record for the lowest 54-hole tournament total in documented history. He had 14 birdies and one bogey over his final 36 holes and started the final round with four birdies in his first five holes.
"I was hitting the ball really well today," Haraldsson said. "I think I hit 17 greens, and I had a chance on pretty much every hole. What I'm most proud of for this round is how I stayed mentally tough. That's the toughest part of playing a round like that."
Playing as an individual,
Ryan Marter tied for 13th place with help from a second-round 65 that elevated him to the top of the leaderboard through 36 holes.
Jake Lane (72-68-66—209) and
Timothius Tirto Tamardi (70-70-69—209) tied for 20th place overall as members of App State's lineup. Highlighted by a first-round 69,
Addison Beam finished with an even-par total through 54 holes, and Lukas Jönsson's event ended with consecutive rounds of 70 and 71.
Also competing as an individual,
Justin Morgan tied for 27th place with a 2-under total of 70-70-71—211.
Colin Browning finished the event with back-to-back rounds of 68 and 71.
