NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — After one round of the Bash at the Beach, host App State was tied for seventh place with an even-par team score of 284, but the Mountaineers climbed to second in the 15-team field with a 10-under 274, five shots behind first-place Troy.
Individually, App State's
Ryan Marter followed a 3-under 68 with a 6-under 65 to sit atop the leaderboard 9-under 133, two strokes ahead of Long Island's Lukas Gabura.
The second-round 65 allowed Marter to tie the program record for lowest 18-hole tournament round, as he joined a list that includes teammates
Timothius Tirto Tamardi and
Jake Lane. Marter's round included one eagle, five birdies and one bogey, as he played holes 1-7 at 5 under and had a 31 on the front side.
Connected to App State's team score,
Sverrir Haraldsson used a 5-under second round to head into the final round tied for 11
th place at 73-66—139. Lane (72-68—140), Tamardi (70-70—140) and
Justin Morgan (70-70—140 as an individual) were tied for 20th, while
Addison Beam was tied for 28th through 36 holes. His first-round 69 led App State on the team front, and Lukas Jönsson contributed to the team score with a 1-under 70 in the second round.
Also playing individually,
Colin Browning recorded a 3-under 68 in the second round.
