BOONE, N.C. - The App State men's and women's cross country team is set to compete at the Sun Belt Cross Country Championships on Friday at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve in Foley, Ala. The women's 5K is set for 4 p.m. CT (5 p.m. ET), followed by the men's 8K at 5 p.m. CT (6 p.m. ET). The meet will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and live results will be available. The Sun Belt Cross Country Championships are free and open to the public.
The championship meet was originally scheduled for Saturday morning, but was moved to Friday afternoon due to forecasted inclement weather.
Last Time Out
The Mountaineer men's and women's squads cliched first in the team standings at the Wildcat Invite in Charlotte, N.C. on Oct. 21, with the men's team scoring 31 points, and the women scoring 24 points. Six Mountaineers finished in the top-10 in the women's 5K race while four men placed in the top-10 in the men's 8K race.
Junior
Annie Amundsen set pace for the women's squad, clocking a time of 18:48.7 to place second. Sophomore
Kirstin Towle took third with a time of 19:04.8 and senior
Abby Lee stopped the clock at 19:07.6 (PR) to place fourth. Freshman
Reilly Barber posted a time of 19:09.5 to place sixth.
On the men's side, senior
Caleb Kirchhoff crossed the finish line with a time of 25:36.3 to take sixth. Junior
Ben Datte placed seventh, stopping the clock at 25:38.2. Sophomores
Calbert Guest and
Jonah Morris placed eighth (25:41.7) and ninth (25:44.0, PR), respectively.
Amundsen and Kirchhoff earned Sun Belt Runner of the Week accolades on Oct. 26 for their performances at the Wildcat Invite.
Last Time at the Sun Belt Championships
Both the men's and women's teams took second at the 2021 Sun Belt Championships. The men scored 58 points, while the women's team scored 73 points.
Izzy Evely placed second individually in the women's race with a time of 17:16.7.
Karsyn Kane took 13th with a time of 18:15.5, and
Jasmine Donohue placed 15th with a time of 18:17.6.
Oliver Wilson-Cook was first to cross the finish line in the men's race, clocking a time of 24:54.1 to place seventh.
Ryan Brown rounded out the top-10 with a time of 25:03.0 and
Ryan Teuscher placed 12th with a time of 25:06.8.
