App State Hosts Final Two Home Games

BOONE, N.C. – App State field hockey prepares for its final home weekend of the season, as the squad is set to host Ball State on Friday at 6 p.m. and Queens on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Both games will be streamed live on Twitch at twitch.tv/appstatesports and live stats will be available to follow along. Sunday's game will also feature Senior Day festivities.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (9-5, 3-2 MAC)
App State has won its last five games after a 4-5 start, including wins against Mid-American Conference opponents Bellarmine and Longwood, moving up to the fourth place spot in the conference standings.

Nationally, the Mountaineers sit high in the stats in several categories. As a team, they rank 15th in the nation in goals per game (2.86) and points per game (8), while rounding out the top 20 in assists per game at 2.29. 

Friederike Stegen has earned the eighth-highest goals per game average (.92), scoring 12 goals through her first 13 games this season. Carli Ciocco also sits at the No. 8 spot in the assists column, averaging .71 per game (10 total).

Defensively, App State ranks 11th in save percentage (.786). Addie Clark ranks 17th in goals allowed per game (1.214) and 23rd in her win-loss rate (9-5) among all goalkeepers in the NCAA.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS (7-7, 4-1 MAC)
Ball State has won 80 percent of its conference games so far, with victories over Longwood, Central Michigan, Ohio and Bellarmine. The Cardinals had their only MAC loss against Kent State.

Fleur Knopert leads the team in points with 23, cumulated by nine goals and five assists. Knopert earned five of those points in Ball State's win over Longwood. 

Defensively, the Cardinals are second place in the conference in saves with 123, led by goalkeeper Hannah Johnston who has started eight games, winning three of them and tallying a save percentage of .747

SCOUTING THE ROYALS (0-11)
Despite not winning a game yet this season, Queens has come within two goals against two MAC opponents, Longwood and Ohio.

Sydney Smith and Caroline Powell lead the squad in goals with two apiece. Smith scored two against in-state foe Davidson and Powell scored two against Saint Louis.

Hannah Neyssen has been the primary goalkeeper for the Royals. She has saved 79 shots, earning a save percentage of .687.

UP NEXT
The Mountaineers will travel for their last weekend of the regular season. They will visit Ohio next Friday at 2 p.m. before coming back to North Carolina to visit Davidson the following Sunday at 1 p.m. The MAC tournament will take place in Oxford, Ohio the week after that.
