BOONE, N.C. -- App State volleyball will hit the road this weekend for a pair of matches in Georgia. The Mountaineers battle Georgia State on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. and conclude the weekend on Sunday at noon at Georgia Southern on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- App State enters the weekend 4-10 overall and 0-2 in Sun Belt play.
- The Mountaineers fell at home to Arkansas State 3-0 and to Little Rock 3-2 last weekend.
- Against Little Rock, the Mountaineers got career days from a handful of players. Lauren Ambrose registered a career-high 20 kills, hitting .265. Tessa Hill had career highs of eight kills and six total blocks, while Sophie Cain dished out a career-best 56 assists.
- Emma Reilly has 238 digs on the season, which is second in the conference. Her average of 4.33Â digs per set sits sixth in the Sun Belt.
- McCall Denny has reached double figures in kills in nine matches this season, including four of her last five contest. She is averaging a team leading 3.13 kills per set, which also ranks eighth in the Sun Belt.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
- Georgia State stands at 3-9 on the season and 0-2 in Sun Belt play.
- The Panthers fell 3-1 at ULM and 3-1 at Louisiana during the conference's opening weekend.
- Against Louisiana, Leah Wilcox led Georgia State with 15 kills. Meisheia Griffin added 13 kills and Erian Wyatt had 11. Wilcox added 13 digs for a double-double, while Ava Vikovic had a team leading 20 digs.
- Griffin sits second in the league, averaging 1.11 blocks per set and ranks fourth in the conference in hitting percentage at .325.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Georgia Southern enters play at 9-3 overall and 2-0 in Sun Belt play.
- The Eagles posted a 3-1 win at ULM and 3-2 win at Louisiana last weekend.
- Baylor Bumford is fifth in the Sun Belt in hitting percentage (.323) and Christina Walford ranks sixth (.318). Bumford is eighth (0.95/set), and Walton ranks fourth (1.04/set) in blocks.
- The Eagles rank third in the Sun Belt in aces (1.72/set), fifth in blocks (2.07/set) and second in hitting percentage (.247). GS also ranks fourth in opponent hitting percentage, holding its opponents to .161.
UP NEXT
App State returns to the High Country next weekend to begin a four-match home stand. The Mountaineers host South Alabama on Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. and Troy on Oct. 10 at 12:30 p.m. The weekend series will also serve as alumnae weekend for the program.
