Field Hockey Opens Regular Season with Two Road Contests

BOONE, N.C. - App State Field Hockey travels to Towson, Maryland this weekend to kickoff its 2021 fall season and to begin a three-game road trip.

The Mountaineers will play Georgetown on Saturday at 2 p.m. and then face Towson on Sunday at 1p.m. Sunday's game will be streamed on FloSports.

This weekend marks the first two of seven non-conference match ups for the Black and Gold this fall. App State is also set to suit up against Wake Forest, James Madison, Ohio State, Davidson and La Salle.

Saturday will be the first regular season game for the 10 App State freshmen, including Charlotte Bosma who scored a goal in each of the Mountaineers' exhibitions last week. App State returns 15 players for the spring campaign, including key seniors Anna Smarrelli, Friederike Stegen, Sydney Lee and Brenna Schoenbachler.

Last year, Georgetown finished its season 6-13 overall and 1-6 in Big East action. Towson resides in the Colonial Athletic Association and tallied a 2-6 overall and a 1-5 conference record last season.

After this weekend's slate, App State will visit Wake Forest next Saturday, Sep. 4 at noon. The Mountaineers' first home game will be against James Madison on Friday, Sep. 10 at 6 p.m.
