BOONE, N.C. – It's been quite a couple of days for App State golfer
Timothius Tirto Tamardi.
The junior from Surabaya, Indonesia was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference second team Thursday, a day after he
finished runner-up at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and then became the
first golfer in school history to be selected to compete at the NCAA Championships.
Tamardi has helped improve the Mountaineers' team since arriving in fall 2019. Last week, he tied for fifth individually at the Sun Belt Championship while leading App State to its best-ever team finish (sixth) since joining the league in 2014-15. It was his third top-five effort of the season.
He led the Mountaineers in scoring average throughout the 2020-21 season at 72.42, the fifth-lowest season average in program history. Tamardi recorded a career-best finish at the Bash at the Beach, tying for third on the player leaderboard. He has carded at least a top-25 finish in all nine tournaments this season with a total of 12 rounds of 72 or lower.
This is the third time an App State men's golfer has earned All-Sun Belt accolades.
Tripp Summerlin and Patrick Moriarty were second-team selections in 2018 and 2016, respectively.
Tamardi will compete at the Kingston Springs Regional (hosted by Vanderbilt and the Nashville Sports Council at the Golf Club of Tennessee), one of the NCAA Championships' six 54-hole regional tournaments conducted May 17-19.
He is one of 10 individuals in the Kingston Springs field, along with 13 qualifying teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
