Women's Tennis Wraps Up Regular Season on the Road

Friday: Charlotte, Sunday: Davidson

BOONE, N.C. - App State women's tennis concludes the regular season with a pair of road matches against Charlotte on Friday at 1 p.m. before facing Davidson on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out
App State fell to Coastal Carolina, 4-2, in the final Sun Belt match of the season on Wednesday. The Mountaineers captured the doubles point before CCU won four of the five singles matches. VirigniaPoggi was the lone student-athlete to earn a singles point. María José Zacarias/Ksenia Aleshina and Sandra Anglesjö/Helena Jansen earned doubles victories to take a 1-0 lead going into singles. 

Wins this Weekend Would
- Give App State a 7-12 record going into the postseason.
- Give the Mountaineers back-to-back road wins for the first time this season.
- Hand Charlotte just their second home loss of the season. 
- Hand Davidson their 12th loss of the season.

Streaking Zacarias
The senior is playing her best tennis down the stretch with a 4-0 doubles record and 2-0 mark in singles over the last four matches. Because of her solid play last week, she was named the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Zacarias/Aleshina are 9-2 overall as doubles partners, winning their last six matches together, while Zacarias is 4-2 in league action as the No. 1 in the lineup in singles. 

Scouting Charlotte
Charlotte enters the match receiving votes in this week's Oracle/ITA coaches poll, while the 49ers were ranked 47th in the previous poll. The 49ers are 17-6 on the season after a 4-2 setback to Florida Atlantic in their previous outing. Five different 49ers have won at least 12 singles matches with Rocio Safont boasting a 15-3 record. Emma Wilkins and Kaavya Sawhney each have 14 victories. The 49ers are 79-47 as a team in singles this season. Leading Charlotte's doubles attack are three tandems with at least 11 victories. Ruxi Schech/Sawhney are 16-4 on the season, while Margaux Maquet/Jenna Dean (12-8) and Emma Wilkns/Safont are 11-7. Friday's opponent is 40-21 in doubles. 

Scouting Davidson
Davidson will face George Washington Saturday before taking on the Apps. The Wildcats are 5-11 on the season, with a four-match skid going into their contest. Josie Schaffer leads the team in singles with eight wins, while Mira Gladstone has six. Davidson is 33-63 in singles thus far. In doubles, Nicole Krykanov/Schaffer lead the way with five wins as a duo, and Franny Shea/Gladstone have four to round out the leaders. 

What's Next
App State will await its opponent for the Sun Belt Tournament held in Peachtree City, Ga. from April 15-18.
