NEW ORLEANS - App State women's tennis senior
María José Zacarias was named the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Zacarias is named Player of the Week for the first time in her career, while she is the first Mountaineer this season to garner the honor.
The native of Mexico is recognized by the league after finishing 3-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles as the No. 1 in both lineups last week against UNCG, Troy and South Alabama.
Zacarias helped the Apps earn a thrilling 4-3 win over Troy on Saturday at home, tying up the match in a three-set triumph after trailing 3-2 in singles.
Coming down the stretch, she is playing some of her best tennis as she's won her last three single matches and is 4-2 in league action, while she is 9-2 overall in doubles with
Ksenia Aleshina and 7-2 in conference play.
Zacarias/Aleshina lead the Sun Belt in doubles wins as the No. 1 tandem in the lineup.
App State returns to action this weekend against Charlotte on Friday at 1 p.m. on the road.
* The Mountaineers played Coastal Carolina earlier in the day. Zacarias/Aleshina won their sixth straight match.
