BOONE, N.C. - App State baseball has announced its 2022 season schedule and season ticket packages.
Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium will now offer premium season ticket packages for the fire pit and picnic table areas this upcoming season, providing a unique viewing experience of App State baseball.
A total of 23 home games are slated for the Mountaineers in the High Country. Coastal Carolina, Davidson, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, High Point, Louisiana, Texas State, Troy, UNC Asheville, UNCW and Wake Forest are all set to battle the Mountaineers on the mountain.
"Our goal has always been to play a competitive schedule that will allow us to accomplish our postseason goals," head coach Kermit Smith said. "One of the great things about the state of North Carolina is that we can stay in the state and play some of the best programs in the country."
On March 1, the Mountaineers will duel with the South Carolina Gamecocks at Truist Field, home of the Charlotte Knights.
App State welcomes UNCW for its home-opening series running from March 4-6. The Mountaineers will then begin Sun Belt Conference play in Boone against Georgia Southern from March 18-20. Coastal Carolina will also make the trip up to Boone in 2022 from April 14-16, followed by a midweek game against ACC foe Wake Forest on May 17. All midweek games are on a Tuesday.
The Mountaineers host Louisiana on April 29-May 1 and close out Sun Belt conference play at home against Troy on May 19-21.
"We have a great blend of home and away contests that will allow our fan base to attend a huge percentage of our contests, with our first 20 games being either a home game or a game within the state of North Carolina," Smith said.
Thirty-seven of the 54 scheduled games are set to take place in the state of North Carolina, including games against 11 different North Carolina institutions like at Duke (Feb. 22) and at North Carolina (March 22). Six of App State's 2022 opponents qualified for the 2021 NCAA tournament.
Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium was recently named the Ultimate AstroTurf Fan Favorite D1 Baseball Field. Max Renfro's viral aerial shot of Beaver Field in October earned nearly a million combined views on App State baseball's social platforms alone.
On the field, App State produced its first-ever Sun Belt Tournament win and a program-best Sun Belt Conference record of 11-10 last season. The Mountaineers have welcomed back all-conference honorees Tyler Tuthill, a junior left-handed pitcher, and Luke Drumheller, a junior infielder.
The upcoming 2022 campaign will mark the 10-year anniversary of the 2012 Southern Conference Champion and Charlottesville Regional squad. The 2012 team will be honored during the March 18-20 home series against Georgia Southern with more details to come.
