MUNCIE, IND. - App State field hockey is set to travel this weekend with two MAC road games against Ball State and Bellarmine.
The Mountaineers will face the Cardinals on Friday at 1 p.m. in Muncie, Ind. They will then travel to challenge the Knights on Sunday at noon in Louisville, Ky.Â
Friday's game can be streamed on ESPN+ and Sunday's game will be available at https://buknightssportsnetwork.com/.
This year, just the top four teams in the MAC will be eligible to play in the conference tournament in early Nov.Â
"Every game matters, every minute matters, every moment matters, and our team has done a good job of focusing on that and trying to play within those minutes," head coach Meghan Dawson said. "Both of those matches are going to be tough, hard-fought defensive battles."
App State is coming into this weekend with a 4-4 record and are 1-1 in conference play. The Black & Gold dropped its first MAC game to reigning conference champion Miami before defeating Ohio in a 2-1 victory last time out.
In that game, Pauline Mangold and Friederike Stegen each scored for the Mountaineers. Mangold has two goals on the season to go along with two assists, a defensive save, and a shot on goal percentage of 67%.
Stegen now has two goals and four assists, and looks to break the program record for career assists this weekend. She is currently tied with former Mountaineer Taylor Cimbalist at 22.
Junior goalkeeper Addie Clark has anchored App State's defense recently, allowing no more than two goals each in her last five games. Clark leads the MAC with a 76% save rate.
Ball State is currently 3-8 and 1-2 in the MAC with a win against Central Michigan and losses to Ohio and Miami. Bellarmine has started the season 1-9, 0-2 in MAC play.Â
After this weekend, App State will have another road game against MAC opponent Longwood on Friday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. The Mountaineers will then travel back to Boone for a non-conference home game on Oct. 17 at noon to host La Salle.
