MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - App State field hockey (6-7, 2-4 MAC) is headed to Central Michigan (3-12, 1-5 MAC) this weekend for two contests against the Chippewas on Friday and Saturday, each at noon.
Both matchups will be live streamed on Chippewas All-Access and live stats will be updated throughout the games.
Friday's game will count toward each team's conference record and Saturday's game will not. The Mountaineers must win on Friday in order to be eligible for the fourth seed and compete in the MAC tournament next weekend, which would also require Ohio to lose to Longwood on Saturday at 1 p.m.
App State is entering into Friday after a hard-fought loss to No. 22 Kent State last weekend. In regulation, there were only goals scored off of corner plays. Pauline Mangold forced overtime with a goal as time expired off of Friederike Stegen's assist, but the Flashes were able to strike first in the extra period.
However, the Black & Gold's defense, anchored by junior goalkeeper Addie Clark, was strong, allowing just two goals against the No. 1 team in the MAC. Clark is second in the conference in save percentage at 73%, and has the third fewest goals-against average with 1.9.
Offensively, App State has three players with over ten total points on the season. Mangold (13) leads the team in points with four goals and five assists. Stegen (12) has scored four goals to go along with her team-leading six assists. Sarah Farrell (11) leads the team in goals with five and has one assist.
Central Michigan has lost five out of its six MAC games, but its one win was a significant outing against Kent State on September 24. The Flashes were ranked No. 23 in the country at the time. The Chippewas won the game 1-0 in a tight shutout.
If the Mountaineers advance, then they will play in Oxford, Ohio on November 5 and 6 for the MAC tournament. A live stream link will be provided for the tournament.
