Field Hockey Places Third in Helper Helper Community Service

BOONE, N.C. App State's field hockey team placed third among all Division I field hockey programs in the 2020 NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service competition.

The Mountaineers and Kent State were the only two Mid-American Conference teams in the top 10. App State student-athletes volunteered with Operation Christmas Child, Habitat for Humanity, the Hunger and Health Coalition and other organizations in Watauga County. Appalachian had participation from 100 percent of its team members and recorded 350 total hours of community service.

The Mountaineers ranked second among Division I field hockey programs in 2019.

"I'm proud of our team for giving back to our community," head coach Meghan Dawson said. "It is a great lesson in life to give to others, and I continue to be proud of our group on and off the field. They are exceptional young women."
